Sacha Baron Cohen carried a “bulletproof clipboard” for protection while making his latest TV show.
The British comedy star’s political satire series “Who Is America?” premiered in July and saw him disguise himself as various characters to interview politicians and other controversial figures, including Senator Bernie Sanders, former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and O.J. Simpson.
In the second episode, Cohen pretended to be a far-left lecturer and gave a presentation at a public meeting in Kingman, Arizona where he announced that the world’s largest mosque outside of the Middle East would be constructed there – though he has now admitted that he was very concerned about how the participants would react to his prank.
“We had a bodyguard that day, which was a wise idea,” he recalled during an interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday night (November 06). “(The bodyguard) said they were taking a lot of the guns off people who were coming into the room because a lot of people there like to carry, and he said, ‘However, some people might have a gun on them.’ He said, ‘Don’t worry, if somebody pulls out a gun and tries to shoot you, I’ve actually created a bulletproof clipboard.’ So I have a clipboard there.”
While Cohen had the clipboard placed in front of him on the podium where he delivered his speech, he confessed that it didn’t actually give him much comfort.
“I said, ‘That’s great but what if they pull out the gun? Do I put it over my heart or over my head? And (the bodyguard) said, ‘I haven’t worked that bit out.’ So, in the end, I was imagining if I could cover my head over my heart and somehow protect my groin as well,” the 47-year-old laughed.
During the interview, Cohen also reprised his persona from 2006 film “Borat” to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump‘s policies with his supporters at polling sites in Los Angeles while voting was taking place in the midterm elections.
He asked one man if he voted “Republican or Jew” and questioned him about First Lady Melania Trump’s pubic hair – queries which the voter refused to answer.
At the conclusion of the clip, “Borat” commented, “Back to you now Jimmy, you little elitist, Hollywood-bubble, globalist Jew mouthpiece.”
