Ruby Rose hits back at critics of her Batwoman casting

It’s a depressing world we live in, as evidenced by the backlash against Ruby Rose’s casting as Batwoman in a new CW series.

The actress quit Twitter in recent days and turned off her public comments on her Instagram account after many trolls hit out at her landing the role of the lesbian superhero.

However, in a reported final series of posts before her account disappeared, Rose hit back at the trolls, where she spoke about her coming out experience and how it was “hurtful” to see people in the LGBTQ community tearing her down.

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read,” she apparently wrote (via The Hollywood Reporter).

“I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.

“When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable… when we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey/ love a challenge I just wish women and the LGBT community supported each other more.

“My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…Sending everyone my love and gratitude, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year, this month especially.”

She continued: “I am looking forward to getting more than 4 hours of sleep and to break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects. If you need me, I’ll be on my Bat Phone.”

Digital Spy has reached out to Rose’s representatives for comment.

Some of the criticism levelled at Rose was the fact that she wasn’t Jewish, despite the character being traditionally so, while others claimed she was not a good enough actress to play the role.

However, the star was glowing about the opportunity to play the character during an appearance on The Tonight Show.

“I feel like the reason I kept getting so emotional is because growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody that I identified with, let alone a superhero,” she said.
