Social media can be a rough place and even Batwoman needs a break sometimes.
However, it was still a surprise when Ruby Rose — recently announced as the new Batwoman in DC’s Arrowverse — deleted her Twitter account without explanation.
Rose (Orange Is The New Black, The Meg) recently received heavy backlash from critics for being cast as the lesbian superhero in a new CW series.
Mostly, the criticism was of the decision to cast a non-Jewish person as a traditionally Jewish character, but others simply claimed she wasn’t a good enough actor to take on the role.
It seems Rose has grown tired of the constant bombardment online and has taken action to remove the target on her back.
This morning (August 12), when searching for Rose’s account, fans were met with an error message that read: “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!”
Tough luck, trolls!
According to reports, the standalone Batwoman series will premiere in 2019 and focus on the Gotham crimefighter’s alter ego Kate Kane who, like in the comic books, will be an open lesbian – making her the highest-profile LGBTQ+ character in the DC Universe.
First, Rose will debut as the nocturnal heroine in CW’s Arrowverse crossover event, which will see Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash join forces to fight crime.
After the casting news broke, Rose went on The Tonight Show to talk about her exciting new role.
“I feel like the reason I kept getting so emotional is because growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody that I identified with, let alone a superhero,” she told Jimmy Fallon.
Later, she revealed she keeps “spontaneously crying” about the achievement and considers the decision to green-light the series a “gamechanger” for the LGBTQ+ community.
She went on to reveal the story of Batwoman chimes with her own personal motto: “Be the person that you needed when you were younger.”
