Riverdale aired its fourth episode this week on The CW and Netflix, leaving viewers wanting more. Clips were shown at the end of the episode to promoting next week’s installment. But what will happen in episode five?

The next episode of Riverdale is called Witness for the Prosecution.

From the clips, it looks like the show is going to be focussing on Nancy Drew wannabe Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart).

In the promo, FBI agent and Betty’s half-brother Charles (Wyatt Nash) Charles says: “Murderers all have one thing in common.”

Pictures of several killers are then shown before the camera focusses on Betty’s mouth when she says: “The serial killer gene.”

Friend and former Farmmie Kevin (Casey Cott) then says in Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe: “I think this is getting a little too intense.”

Next thing you know, Betty is walking up to a little girl who’s sitting on the floor next to a lying animal.

The little girl then lifts up a rock above her head as if she’s about to kill what looks like a family pet.

Present day Betty reaches out shouting “no!” in a bid to try and stop her younger self.

Whether Betty manages to stop her younger self is unclear as the promo then ends.

But we do know the main plot of this episode will be delving into Betty’s darker side.

Since season one, we’ve known Cooper isn’t just the nice girl next door.

From trying to drown Chuck (Jordan Calloway) in the hot tub, to letting the Black Hood (Lochlyn Munro) lose on Chic (Hart Denton), she hasn’t always been the innocent victim in Riverdale.

She later discovers what could be the reason behind Dark Betty.

Betty’s sister, Polly (Tiera Skovbye), explains that at a young age, she was told she possesses the “serial killer gene” or monoamine oxidase A (MAOA).

Riverdale continues on Netflix UK every Thursday.
