Bethenny Frankel, Dorinda Medley, Sonja Morgan and Tinsley Mortimer have reached their breaking point.
The ladies of "The Real Housewives of New York" have reached their breaking point with one of their OG castmembers: Luann de Lesseps.
After Bethenny Frankel spearheaded Luann’s life-saving intervention last summer, the former Countess has managed to maintain her sobriety, buy a new home in Upstate New York and headline a national cabaret tour. But the ladies feel Lu’s put them and the Bravo series that made her famous on the back burner — and quite frankly, they’re sick of it.
"We all feel like the minions," Sonja Morgan said of her co-star’s recent behavior during Wednesday’s "RHONY After Show." "She treats us like fans, but she doesn’t see it."
Dorinda Medley, who’s beef with Lu dates back to last year, added, "There’s a complete lack of self-awareness. It’s almost like, if it’s not about her or doesn’t involve her and the focus isn’t on her, she doesn’t really have an interest. And I don’t know if that’s part of a protective thing?"
Sonja interjected, "Luann says she’s in a protective mode to make sure that she stays on track with her sobriety, but sometimes, it doesn’t feel that way. It feels like she’s very focused on her."
Last season, Dorin made some insensitive comments about Luann’s drunk arrest after Luann made some insensitive comments about Dorinda’s drinking habits. Dorinda then heckled (although she claims she didn’t) Luann at the latter’s first cabaret show because Lu didn’t extend an invite to Dorinda’s boyfriend after they both put her in contact with the company that made all her dresses for the show — "Jovani! Jovani!"
Dorinda’s spent the majority of this season trying to make amends with Lu, but it’s pretty much gotten her nowhere.
"She has a very free hand with giving judgement and passing judgement on others," Dorinda said Wednesday. "All roads just lead back to Luann: ‘I mean, I’m the one that just came out of recovery. I should get the best room.’ In every situation — [Sonja and I] have talked about the stuff that we’ve had to go through — you have to take responsibility for your actions."
"But Luann’s not gonna do that because it cracks the fantasy world that she’s living in," Sonja added. "It has to look so good to everyone all the time."
A few episodes ago, Luann threw a tantrum that Dorinda gave Bethenny and not her the best room in the house at The Berkshires. Naturally, Dorinda relayed the message to Bethenny. She was pissed but chose not to confront Luann.
Then last week, Luann hosted a cabaret-inspired Halloween party. Everyone except Ramona Singer (that’s a whole other can of worms) showed up to support Lu, who said she would be performing at 11. In costume, Bethenny arrived extra early so that she could stay for a few hours, watch the performance and leave right after because she had her 8-year-old daughter, Bryn, sleeping at home and wanted to relieve her babysitter.
Not only was Luann hours late to go on, but she didn’t tell the ladies she’d be late, so Bethenny ended up leaving before she got to see Luann. Luann later made a comment to Dorinda about how she didn’t understand why Bethenny would have to go home to watch her kid sleep, and once again, word got back to Bethenny.
During Wednesday’s new hour, Bethenny finally got her moment to unleash on Luann, and Dorinda feels it was "totally justified."
"I mean, that should just be — as a mother and as someone who’s helped me through so much — shouldn’t even be a remote issue. What is the issue here?" she said of the remark. "I think when Luann does say things like, ‘What are you doing? You’re gonna go home and watch your kid sleep?’ it’s sort of — what she values, maybe we don’t. Listen, I am so proud of Luann. She’s killing it with the cabaret, but I don’t personally like cabaret. We are doing this for Luann, and that should be enough."
Sonja agreed, adding, "You can be late, it’s your performance, things happen, but she shouldn’t have said anything to Bethenny about it. Really, that was the problem. Luann should’ve just been grateful that we showed up and we saw her act and thanked us and that should’ve been it, but she had to ruin it by saying, ‘What are you gonna do? Go home and watch your kid sleep?’"
While Tinsley Mortimer was "surprised that [Luann] was going after Bethenny when Bethenny helped her so much get out of her situation and go to rehab again," she was not shocked at all that Bethenny defended herself so aggressively.
"Of course, if you say something about Bethenny — any of us — we’re gonna defend ourselves, and we’re gonna go at it," she said before reluctantly revealing she thinks Lu may actually resent Bethenny for helping her get sober.
"This is gonna sound really bad, but I think Luann likes to drink, and Bethenny sort of spearheaded the whole mission to get her back into rehab," Tins said. "So I do think that there is a little bit of — she’s pissed a little bit at her."
"She wanted to keep drinking, and Bethenny stopped it," Tinsley’s mom, Dale, added. "I think that she fully believes all of the hype about the cabaret and that she’s a huge star. And I know she’s done a great job and it’s been so successful and I’ve been surprised, honestly, but I think that that made her feel that she and Bethenny — and Bethenny’s sort of the queen — were more on even-level heels."
"The Real Housewives of New York" airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
