Peaky Blinders director reveals hit BBC series is being turned into a film and creator Steven Knight is in the middle of writing a script

Otto worked on three episodes of the gangster drama and Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas Shelby on the BBC One show, previously said bosses had been discussing “ideas” for a movie.

Director Otto told Yahoo! Movies: “I think it’s actually being written.

“I think Steve, Steve Knight the writer; I think they’re planning something, yeah.”

This is not the first time it has been claimed Peaky Blinders could be made into a film.

In 2016, Otto also claimed the show would hit the big screen and he repeated his claims again last year, saying it was “probably going to” happen.

No details about the plot or the cast have emerged and no release possible release date has been given.

While fans may look forward to a Peaky Blinders movie, actor Cillian is unsure how it would work and says it would take some careful consideration.

He previously told Esquire magazine: “I think Steve [Knight] has some ideas. You’d have to be careful, but I’d be curious to do it.”

Series five is set to air on BBC One next year and it will see Arthur and Tommy battle the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder after fighting in World War I.

There are some new additions to the cast in the form of Hunger Games actor Sam Claflin and Split star Anya Taylor-Joy.

It was reported the show would end next year but creator Steven insists it will go on for another two after.

He told Digital Spy: “My ambition is to make it a story of a family between two wars, so always I’ve wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham in 1939. It’ll take three more series [to reach that point].”
