In heartbreaking scenes, a wild orangutan desperately tried to battle a bulldozer sent to destroy its home in a bid to savour what little forest it had left.
Fans of the newest BBC documentary Climate Change – The Facts were brought to tears by the clips that showed the animal hopelessly shoving the machine after it ripped down trees in its path.
After trying and failing to protect its precious home, the orangutan ran from the scene before the bulldozer continued to destroy the forest.
The documentary, written and narrated by legendary nature expert David Attenborough, was looking at the damage caused by the use of palm oil.
It explained to viewers that the high demands for the oil were the cause of large scale deforestation and consequently, the destruction of animals’ habitats.
Fans could hardly believe their eyes and took to social media to vent about the horrifying clips.
One said: “This infuriates me, stop destroying their home.”
Audiences were so traumatised by the clips that Netflix issued a warning from their official Twitter soon after, telling “animal lovers” to “skip these scenes” alongside time stamps for each episode.
David Attenborough, 92, has been working with animals and producing documentaries for more than 30 years and has become an icon in British television.
