Outlander fans are currently enduring an incredibly long Droughtlander as production on season six is yet to even begin due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the cast and crew have been doing all they can to keep fans entertained. In a surprise move, Sam Heughan, 40, announced he would be sharing his phone number so that he can talk “rubbish” with his social media followers and keep them up to date with his life.
Sam announced the news on his official Twitter account with a video.
He told his 677,200 followers: ”Hey there, just checking in from Scotland. So I think I’m about to do something crazy.
“Now, I love social media and I know we like to interact a lot on various platforms.
“But, it’s a total minefield, from adverts to what’s trending to people cat-fishing or pretending to be myself or anyone else.
“I don’t know why you would decide to that!
“But what I’ve decided to do is, I’m going to give you my phone number. Yes, that’s right!”
However, he then delivered a devastating blow to fans across Europe and Asia.
“Unfortunately it’s only for people in America and Canada at the moment,” he explained.
“Here’s my phone number, you can text me, I’m going to text you.
“I’m going to tell you about some of the amazing stuff, I’m going to check in with you now and then, tell you about some amazing projects that are coming up, some great opportunities, or just talk rubbish and share a whiskey.
“I can’t wait so send me a text, and I will text you back and we’ll see where the conversation goes.”
Sam then shared the video with the caption: “+1 310 356 3929 This is crazy,” and a kissing emoji.

Unsurprisingly, fans went wild for the actor’s post and rushed to share their excitement.
One replied: “Wow, how fun! Thanks, Sam! Left a text. Will see what happens… Is it okay if I put “TV boyfriend” in my contact list under your “job title”?”
Another added: “What were you thinking Sam!!! I love this!!You’re my most famous contact!!”
However, there were some fans who were sad they couldn’t join in just yet, with one tweeting: “Hi Sam, why are you only texting with the fans is the USA? Why not in Europe? We love you to! But why always American fans to please?Hug for you.”
The move comes after Sam was announced to be lending his voice to narrate an animated Gairloch folk tale from the Scottish Highlands for the BBC and the Gairloch Museum.
Sharing the news on Twitter last week, he said he was “honoured” to be taking part in the three-minute animation.
The piece is based on artwork by Abe Locke and follows a small girl named Jessie MacRae who meets the last of the fairies, Gille Dubh.
Jessie comes across Gille Dubh when she gets lost in the forest and the last fairy guides her home. Years later, Jessie returns the favour.
Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
