Outlander cast tease details of ‘exciting’ season six
Outlander fans are desperately waiting for the show to return with the coronavirus pandemic affecting filming. The wait for season six could potentially be the longest one in the history of the Starz show to date. Many fans are very curious to know what could happen next and if Outlander could return to its home of Scotland, reuniting audiences with the Murray clan.
Does Ian Murray die in Outlander?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the Outlander novels and potential TV spoilers
Season three of Outlander saw central couple Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and wife Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) departing from Scotland after their nephew Young Ian Murray (John Bell) was kidnapped by smugglers.
The pair ended up embarking on quite the adventure which took them to Jamaica before they made their way to the New World after encountering a very much alive Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) and saving Young Ian.
Season four saw the couple making Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina their new home as they faced fresh challenges.
They were also reunited with their daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) after she made the perilous journey back to the past.

Season five saw the Frasers building a life for themselves in the past as the drumbeat of the American Revolutionary War sounded ever closer and they found themselves involved the Battle of Alamance.
The forthcoming sixth outing is going to be an adaptation of 2005’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Sadly, the novel keeps the action very much in America with nothing cutting back to Scotland, which means for the moment fans won’t see Ian Murray (Steven Cree).
The only member of the Murrays in America will be Young Ian, who has his own story.
Outlander could take other elements from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novel series but it seems highly unlikely the Murrays are going to be part of this.
Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts previously said “Season six, we’re going to dig into the sixth book in the series and I think one the things we always dig into is the Fraser and MacKenzies put themselves out there.
“The reasons why I think they are so affected by traumas and all the turmoil that goes on in the era is because they put themselves out there, they try to help people.
“Whether that’s people coming to the Ridge or them going out to trying to stop something, whether it’s Culloden or Alamance or whatever, they put themselves out there.

He added at Paley Fest in 2020: “They put themselves at risk and inherently when you do that, you suffer and in book six that happens again.
However, this isn’t to say Outlander won’t be returning to its ancestral home but it is not going to be in season six.
The seventh novel An Echo in the Bone sees Jamie and Claire making a return to Scotland to visit Lallybroch, where they will be reunited with Ian and Jenny Murray (Laura Donnelly).
Therefore, fans will meet the Murrays again in the future but there is going to be a wait for this long-anticipated reunion.
An Echo in the Bone is a bittersweet affair after Jamie and Claire find Ian in the latter stages of consumption or tuberculosis.
He contracted the lung disease 30 years earlier while he was being held at Edinburgh’s Tolbooth Prison in the wake of Culloden.
Ian appears to be in good spirits despite his advanced illness but close to the end with Jenny asking Claire if she can heal her husband.
Claire refuses because it’s too late and the pair fall out over this. Sadly, Ian later dies with Jamie and his family by his side.
