Now that the police procedural landscape is looking a little bare (we miss you, CSI), it makes sense that some of television’s finest examples of crime drama return to the small screen.
And, y’know, who doesn’t love a reboot?
Well, according to TVLine, the latest long-running series to be brought back is ABC’s critically-acclaimed NYPD Blue, which originally ran from 1993 to 2005.
The series, unsurprisingly set in New York City, explored the highs and lows of a detective squad in the police department’s fictional 15th precinct.
NYPD Blue 2.0 won’t be any old revival, though – it’s reported the series will be a whole new version of the show, with a new generation of detectives on the scene.
It’s believed a pilot is currently in the works for the drama, which will introduce the son of Dennis Franz’s Andy Sipowicz as he investigates his own father’s murder (!).
In a suitably dark twist, Theo will try to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while working on his father’s shock death.

TVLine is also reporting that NYPD Blue alumni Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton will run the upcoming project, with Jesse Bochco, son of late co-creator Steven Bochco, directing the pilot.
Whether any original cast members will return with the crew is yet to be seen, but a David Caruso cameo? Don’t bet on it.
