There is a new comedy called Flipped that shows a fictional couple working together to renovate homes in hopes to become rich and famous. That description might make you think of Chip and Joanna Gaines, and that’s because they are inspired by them. Chip and Joanna Gaines decided to end ‘Fixer Upper’
The real couple decided to stop doing Fixer Upper after their fifth season. They addressed the rumors around their decision on their website.
“We would be foolish to think we can go and go and fire on all cylinders and never stop to pause,” read the statement. “Our family is healthy and our marriage has honestly never been stronger.”
It continued, “This has nothing to do with a fraudulent skincare line or anything else you’ll inevitably read. This is just us recognizing that we need to catch our breath for a moment. Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our businesses.”
Now the couple will be making their return to television. It will involve a lot more content than just one show.
Their network will be available later this year
The married couple became famous through Fixer Upper. Now they’ll have their own network, Magnolia later this year.
Magnolia will replace the DIY Network. One of the shows that has already been announced is Home on the Road. The reality show will follow Abner Ramirez, Amanda Sudano Ramirez, and their two kids being on tour with with their band Johnnyswim, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The couple will be expanding beyond renovations with Joanna hosting her own cooking show. Magnolia will reportedly be available in October 2020.
Cricket and Jann Melfi of ‘Flipped’ is based on the couple
Flipped is a new comedy that follows an underemployed couple named Cricket (Kaitlin Olson) and Jann Melfi (Will Forte) who claim they’re renovation experts. Jann seems to be very confident when it comes to how her skills measure up in comparison to Joanna.
“It was inspired by them,” Olson told People. “My character isn’t trying to emulate her, my character thinks she can be way better than her,” she added. “I certainly have seen those shows and get sucked in just like everybody else, and I find it fascinating.”
However, their projects aren’t like the ones found on Fixer Upper. The actress revealed, “They get stuck renovating this old run-down shack that they find in the desert, and it turns out that it belongs to a drug cartel, and they end up being kidnapped, and they’re forced to renovate homes for this drug cartel.”
Eva Longoria, Andy Garcia and Arturo Castillo are also starring in the show. The new show will be on a new streaming platform called Quibi, which launches on April 16.
