Mel and Sue to reunite on screen as unlikely assassins in first ever sitcom

Comedy duo Mel and Sue are set to reunite on screen as for their first ever sitcom, playing two best friends who are pretty terrible assassins.

The former Bake Off and Generation Game presenters will play best friends Fran and Jamie in Sky One’s six-part show, Hitmen, who try their hand at contract killing.

The pair work out of a scruffy-looking van, and in each episode the duo try to carry out their latest hit, only for their efforts to be derailed due to their incompetence.

Exec producer Myfanwy Moore said: "We are so excited to be working with the truly fantastic female comedy partnership that is Mel and Sue, who can brandish bullets and banter brilliantly in equal measure."

Mel’s character, Jamie, is described by the broadcaster as an "affable goof" who wants nothing more than to hang out with her friend, while Sue plays a "super sensitive" hitman who starts to reevaluate her life as she and Jamie continue to fail over and over.

The comedy duo have had some script input into the show, while Joe Parham and Joe Markham are the principle writers.

The couple made headlines in 2016 when they decided not to follow The Great British Bake Off to Channel 4, along with one of the judges, Mary Berry.

They released a statement where they confirmed their decision not to join the show on a new broadcaster, saying it was "quintessentially British" and belonged on the BBC.

Sue told Kirsty Young on BBC Radio 4 that she and Mel never officially discussed their decision, but she knew Mel would leave with her due to their choice not to "go with the dough."
