Eamonn Holmes came close to breaking social distancing rules on This Morning when he unwisely approached Matthew Wright to get a close look of the back of his hair.
Earlier this week, Matthew, 55, unveiled his new hairstyle on the ITV talk show, appearing on the programme with a retro-looking mullet.
During Friday’s show, Eamonn and Ruth Langsford, along with chef Phil Vickery, joined in a discussion about Matthew’s unconventional haircut.
Intrigued by the look, Eamonn, 61, got up from his sofa to get right up close.
However, he quickly retreated from Matthew after being warned that he could be in breach of social distancing rules.
‘I’m going to have to go and have a look at this,’ Eamonn said, before Ruth, 60, interjected, stating: ‘You’re not allowed to touch it.’
As Eamonn neared Matthew, Matthew inched away on the sofa, with Ruth shouting: ‘Get back! Eamonn!’
Eamonn then realised his error, stating: ‘Oh I forgot. I’ve been told, social distancing.’
As Eamonn took his place back on the sofa next to his partner Ruth, he explained that he just wanted to check if Matthew’s mullet had been ‘clipped on’.
Matthew confirmed that his mullet was in fact real, tugging on the short length of hair on the back of his head.
Several This Morning viewers called Eamonn out on his accidental misstep.
‘You’re not allowed to touch him EAMONN!’ one person tweeted, while another commented: ‘Eamonn was about to touch – TOUCH – Matthew Wright’s mullet!’
Today marks Ruth and Eamonn’s final Friday slot on This Morning for a while, as from January 2021 Fridays will be hosted by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
During the programme, Eamonn threw shade at This Morning for ‘getting rid’ of him and Ruth on Fridays.
Before the talk show began, Eamonn and Ruth both shared posts on Instagram to mark their last day.
The pair will be back to host This Morning during key holidays.
‘We bow out of 15 years of our Friday slot on This Morning today. Thanks for the memories hope we made some for you too,’ Eamonn wrote.
‘Here we go….our last Friday on @thismorning for a while….let’s get out there and Sparkle @eamonnholmes,’ Ruth added.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Eamonn’s representatives and ITV for comment.
