The 42-year-old make-up artist was dealt another blow earlier this month when she was axed from Britain's Got Talent ahead of Ant's return to the ITV show in January – but Simon Cowell is said to have promised to put work her way in the US.
Speaking to Closer magazine, a source said: "Lisa has been to hell and back this year, and it seems as though things just keep getting worse and worse.
"She has decided to head back to Los Angeles in January, where she can enjoy the sun and practice some much-needed self-care, living a healthy lifestyle, and also have meetings about exciting career opportunities.
"She's heartbroken about losing her job, but she wants to start the New Year on a high."
The insider continued: "Simon's promised to put some work her way when she is back in LA.
"He's even talked about bringing her onto the America's Got Talent team. He knows that Lisa is very well respected and good at what she does, and he likes rewarding talent.
"Lisa has insisted she'll pull in all the favours she can."
Lisa previously hinted that she is considering a move to Hollywood, liking a Twitter message that read: "Guess what? The #moviecapitaloftheworld aka #Hollywood and everyone here in the United States would LOVE and appreciate your #makeupartist #talent!
"Come live here in sunny U.S. where we absolutely love #Brits! (And, bonus, you escape #Brexit drama!) WE [love] YOU LISA!"
Earlier this year, she spent two months living in the Californian city with her friend Craig Bobby.
At the time, she said the healthy LA lifestyle helped her to "look after" herself – however, a permanent move might add further complications to her and Ant's bitter custody battle over their beloved dog, Hurley.
Last week it was revealed that the pair are fighting over who should have the pooch on Christmas Day – with Lisa adamant that she should have the Labrador as Ant will be celebrating with new girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett.
General custody of Hurley had already been arranged during the pair's divorce, with the dog spending a week at each of the former couple's homes.
The five-year-old lab gets transported from Lisa's Chiswick home to Ant's rented London mansion by a private chauffeur, who is a long-time employee of Ant and his co-star Declan Donnelly.
During their divorce settlement, Ant was said to have told Lisa that she can have "anything she wants – except Hurley".
Speaking to Closer, the source said of Lisa's LA move: "If Lisa goes to LA for a prolonged period it would be her absolute dream to fly Hurley out.
"Even with their divorce settled, Lisa and Ant are at war with each other over Hurley.
"Lisa really feels as though she should be the one to keep him after everything she's been through.
"Ant's got what he wants with his new relationship with Anne-Marie and now Lisa is focusing on her happiness too, and that includes being with Hurley – who has been a life-saving support when she needs it most."
Ant and Lisa split in January of this year after 11 years of marriage.
