One of the actors responsible for killing off Stephen Graham’s character in Line Of Duty says the shocking scene from tonight’s drama “stayed with her” and gave her nightmares after filming because it was so realistic.
Up to eight million fans were shocked at the end of tonight's episode as John Corbett’s neck was slashed with a knife in an attack by his own gang members who worked out he was a ‘rat’ who was really an undercover policeman.
But the scenes, filmed in Belfast, were as dramatic for some of the cast as the audience.
Rochenda Sandall who plays gang boss Lisa McQueen said: “Towards the end of the episode it really kind of ramped up eh!
"We really were in a kind of like awful building that’s really disheveled and kind of just a wreck really because the art department are so amazing on this show.
"So there’s no acting involved really, because it is real, there’s blood spurting out and everything.
“It’s very kind of like dramatic and live because what happens is someones there, the art department are there pumping blood so the blood squirts and it really does look like you’ve hit the actual artery and stuff.
“Stephen had to do a few more re-shoots from the back of his neck, or something like that. So he did that and then we all went home and decompressed and had bloody nightmares.”
Rochenda also predicted a tough time ahead for her character Lisa now she was the most senior gang member and effectively in control.
Speaking on the Series Linked TV Podcast, she said: “ I felt the whole way through up until now, she’s been much happier being number two, because as with number one you’re putting in the orders of violence, murder, you know the real dirty work really, as number one.
"I think that she’s always liked to be the strategist, the woman behind the curtain really, making the plans.
“So, now is number one, I mean you can really tell from her emotional outburst at the end that she knows that she’s in the s*** really.”
Rochenda also said people she knew and fans were not asking for spoilers from her despite being huge fans.
She said: “Most people, they kind of say, ‘No, don’t tell me. I don’t want to know’. It’s like opening a present before Christmas Day, do you know what I mean?
"Like it’s nice, but then it’s totally ruined. “Also, I think that’s what’s so amazing about this show is that people do go back week, after week, and they do talk about it during the week, and they do have these theories and that can only be facilitated by the week gap.
"Because if you could just binge watch it, it would be a bit rubbish in that aspect.”
Also on last night’s show, AC-12 boss Ted Hastings was shown receiving a mysterious large envelope filled with cash.
Fans still hope Ted, played by Adrian Dunbar, will not turn out to be a corrupt police officer.
