Lidl and Pizza Hut mock John Lewis Christmas advert in hilarious Twitter posts

It was the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the official signifier of Christmas – the reveal of the John Lewis advert.

This year’s Christmas ad is The Boy And The Piano and it features global superstar Elton John singing Your Song.

Many people were underwhelmed by the commercial, which didn’t pave way for a range of toys but instead appears to be selling the idea of something being more than a gift – in this instance a piano which went on to spark an incredible career.

John Lewis also happens to be selling pianos alongside the ad, but many parents were shocked to see how pricey they were – with one costing £872.

After seeing the comments about this, Lidl took matters into their own hands and shared a hilarious post on Twitter mocking the advert.

The supermarket chain revealed that they currently have keyboards in stock – and they’re selling them for the much more purse-friendly price of £89.99.

They shared a picture of a keyboard which said: "It’s a Lidl bit funny…"

Alongside this they wrote: "Just because you don’t have £872 to spend on a piano, doesn’t mean you can’t be the next Elton."

Thousands of people liked the post – and even John Lewis saw the funny side.

They replied to the tweet saying: "It’s a Lidl bit cheaper" and shared a link to a £15 toy piano for babies on their website.

And Lidl weren’t the only ones to poke fun at the advert.

Pizza Hut also got involved in the fun and posted a video of someone playing The Fast Food Song by Fast Food Rockers on a piano.

The song was a big hit in the UK in 2003 and featured lyrics such as: "A Pizza Hut, a Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut."

The pizza chain captioned it: "Shame to see the #EltonJohnLewis ad allowed through when ours got banned. We’re releasing it anyway. Enjoy."
