Kelvin Fletcher may have stepped in for Jamie Laing on Strictly Come Dancing but the Emmerdale star meant he was forced to pull out of panto this Christmas.
The soap star was scheduled to play the titular role St Helens Theatre Royal performance of Aladdin from 7 December until 12 January but the theatre has now confirmed another Strictly star will take his place.
‘We are delighted to announce that Strictly Come Dancing’s Robin Windsor will be waltzing on to our stage in the title role of Aladdin this Christmas,’ shared the theatre on FaceBook.
‘The dance professional replaces the previously announced former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher, who has joined this year’s Strictly line-up as a late addition after Jamie Laing had to withdraw due to injury.
‘Catch Robin and all our wonderful cast when Aladdin flies in to Theatre Royal from Sat 7 Dec – Sun 12 Jan.’
The actor recently revealed how he was given one hour to decide whether he wanted to replace Jamie Laing, when the reality star was forced to quit due to an injury.
‘I didn’t anticipate this at all,’ Kelvin told Radio Times of his sudden casting.
‘I suddenly received a call from my agent offering me the chance to do Strictly and I had to make the decision within an hour or two.’
He added: ‘I was doing a different job towards the end of the year so I had to change my plans, but it was a no-brainer. I’d met the Strictly producers previously so they’d already had a taste of me and what I was about but I was straight in at the deep end.’
Strictly Come Dancing’s first live show kicks off Saturday 21 September on BBC One.
