Johnny Vegas pictured posing naked for National Portrait gallery snap before his incredible weight loss

The actor, 47, bravely stripped off for the Exposed: The Naked Portrait collection, set to open in Newcastle later this year.

The shot sees Johnny staring into the horizon in nothing but earrings and a chunky ring.

Exposing most of his frame, the actor cups his belly and chest with his hands, and conceals his manhood by cocking one leg forward.

The striking photo is one of many featured in the exhibition, due to open in the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle, this autumn.

Johnny joins a number of naked sitters in the collection, including John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Naomi Campbell, David Frost, Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall and Charlotte Rampling.

The image was taken was taken months before Johnny revealed his impressive weight loss to fans.

The Benidorm star unveiled his newly-slim frame on Twitter in July, after cutting out fatty fry ups and fast food – and cigarettes.

Johnny weighed 18stone at his heaviest and now works hard to get fitter – although he did treat himself to some cheesy chips while on holiday last week.

He follows a high-protein diet and has cut back on alcohol, but still indulges in the odd pint of Guinness for balance.

He told fans last month: "It's okay to feel just a teensy weensy bit pleased with yourself when a compliment over weight loss ends with ‘…you look fabulous!?'

“So glad I went for the healthy option now Guinness IS good for you!”

Johnny overhauled his lifestyle after splitting from Maia Dunphy, his wife of seven years, in May.
