John Barrowman baffles Lorraine viewers as he changes American accent to a strong Scottish one

The I'm a Celebrity star usually speaks with an American twang but during his chat with Scottish star Lorraine, John slipped into a similar accent.

It left viewers baffled with one writing on Twitter: "Is John Barrowman picking up on Lorraine’s accent?? I swear he spun a bit Scottish this morning."

Another tweeted: "He’s more Scottish than ever before" and a third wrote: "Love how @JohnBarrowman’s Scottish accent has come back stronger talking to #Lorraine."

John finished third on last year's series of I'm a Celebrity, and viewers who had enjoyed the ITV show couldn't help but notice the difference in his accents.

One wrote: "John didnt aound so Scottish on Im A Celeb!!"

Another added: "Really can’t get my head around how John Barrowman has 2 accents."

Lorraine's official Twitter account even joked about the conversation between the pair, posting a clip and writing: "What happens when you put @reallorraine and @JohnBarrowman in a studio together? Everyone gets *a lot* more Scottish! #Lorraine."

The amount of comments lead Lorraine to ask the 51-year-old about it.

John explained: "When I'm with my mum and dad, my brother and sister I speak Scottish.

"Anybody who is Scottish I will speak with a Scottish accent, because you are privileged and also because when I was a kid when I moved to the States I was bullied.

"So anybody who doesn't speak Scottish I speak with an American accent."

He then joked: "Leave me alone! It's the way I speak! I'm bi-dialectical."

While he was in the jungle, his sister Carole revealed why the actor and performer has the dual accents.

The family moved from Glasgow to Aurora, Illinois, when he was eight, when his dad, John Snr, got a job at the Caterpillar tractor plant.

But he was initially picked on because of his Scottish accent.

His sister Carole recalled in an interview while he was in the jungle: “A lot of the kids couldn’t understand what he was saying. They would harass him a lot.

"At high school John was even bullied by those in his drama class, where he had hoped to fit in.

“The older kids were really very unkind. They were mean to him because they could tell that he was talented. They had been very aggressive.”
