Jamie Oliver vs Jack Monroe: Why is Bootstrap Cook not on Keep Cooking And Carry On?

Keep Cooking and Carry On begins tonight (Monday, March 23) on Channel 4 as a cooking show made to help people self-isolating in the wake of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The series will help viewers solve cooking conundrums using many ingredients which people are likely to have knocking around in their homes.

Channel 4 recently announced British chef Jamie Oliver would be fronting a new cooking show for viewers at home.

The series begins airing on Monday, March 23 at 5.30pm and will be broadcast every day this week.

One of the major aims of the series is to try and discourage people in the UK from panic buying in supermarkets in the wake of the spread of coronavirus COVID-19.

The show therefore focuses instead on what ingredients people are likely to already have at home and how to use those to make delicious meals.

In a recent statement, the Jamie Oliver Group chief content officer Zoe Collins revealed what led them to start up the show.

She said: “The show is a direct response to thousands of requests we have been receiving from people who are looking for some inspiration and assurance to help them through this difficult time — and Jamie is a trusted voice to deliver that.”

Oliver also gave some more insight into what the series will be about in a statement.

He said: “Cooking nutritious meals for yourself and your loved ones has never been more important.

“This show will be packed with easy and delicious recipes that the whole family can enjoy, plus loads of tips, tricks and hacks for simple swaps and ways you can make the recipes work with what you’ve got.

“Let’s big up those store cupboard and freezer faves and hero recipes you can take lots of ways.”

However, the new series has already been the subject of some controversy over the decision to have Oliver host it.

This is because the idea of budget cooking from elements people have in their cupboards was made popular by another British chef named Jack Monroe.
