ITV's The Durrells with Keeley Hawes will end in 2019 after series 4

ITV comedy drama The Durrells will come to an end in 2019 after season 4.

Keeley Hawes and the rest of the cast will return to Corfu in September to film what The Mirror reports is the final season.

Digital Spy has reached out to ITV for confirmation, but the channel declined to comment.

The Durrells is based on the series of books by Gerald Durrell, following his time on the Greek island with his family in the 1930s.

This comes just three months after The Durrells was renewed for its fourth season.

The Durrells has proven immensely popular with viewers and critics alike, so we’re thrilled to have commissioned another series,” said ITV’s Senior Drama Commissioner, Victoria Fea back in May.

Hawes won’t be disappearing from our screens, however, as she’ll also be starring in BBC One’s new series Bodyguard – a tense thriller from Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio.

She’ll play Julia Montague, the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary. “At risk, every day,” Montague is assigned David Budd (Richard Madden) – a war veteran-turned-Specialist-Protection-Officer – as a bodyguard.

The Durrells‘ Josh O’Connor has also landed himself an eye-catching role as Prince Charles in season 3 of The Crown.

O’Connor is set to play a young Charles in the hit series, portraying the future king throughout his late teens and early 20s.

Season 4 of The Durrells will air on ITV.
