'I’m relearning how to be in the world': Gen Fricker speaks out about alleged stalker

Triple J host Gen Fricker has broken her silence about an alleged stalker who broke into the ABC studios and kissed her as she was on air, saying she was "relearning how to be in the world" after the assault.

Earlier this month, police were called to the public broadcaster when Kieren Gallagher, 31, allegedly tailgaited an ABC employee into the building and made his way into the Triple J studio where he kissed the radio host and comedian and fled from the Ultimo building when security became aware of the issue.

She has not yet returned to work.

Court documents seen by Fairfax Media show that Mr Gallagher, who is of no fixed address and was arrested at Central Station where he was sleeping rough following the alleged assault, had allegedly been stalking Ms Fricker since May.

"Right now I feel like I’m relearning how to be in the world and it’s an excruciatingly slow process," she wrote in an emotional social media post on Tuesday afternoon.

"I’m not sure about the future, but right now, I am grateful and ok."

Mr Gallagher was charged on September 10 with stalking, entering enclosed lands without permission and common assault.

Court documents seen by Fairfax Media show that Mr Gallagher had been stalking Ms Fricker for months "with the intention of causing her physical or mental harm".

Appearing on audio-visual link at Central Local Court following his arrest, Mr Gallagher was "aggressive, highly agitated and abusive" according to court documents, and "unable to indicate to the court what he wants".

Mr Gallagher is now under assessment under the Mental Health Act, and will return to court at a later date.

An all-staff memo at the public broadcaster issued on Monday told staff to not allow tailgaters through the security gates and to report all security risks to staff.

"Following this incident, we have increased security guards at Ultimo. There may be increased checks on IDs, security attention at all building entry points and escalated physical security improvement works," said the memo.

In a statement, a spokesman for ABC said security of staff was of paramount importance.

"There was a security incident at the ABC Ultimo Centre last week. A man has been arrested and the matter is now before the court," the spokesman said.

"All affected employees are receiving support and have asked for privacy."
