I'm A Celeb 2018 – why are some contestants allowed to miss trials?

Due to the physical and mental demands of the bushtucker trials, it is not uncommon for at least one celebrity to be ruled out on medical grounds.

It has been claimed that the campmates are monitored by the show's doctors every day and medical advice is given to the producers to determine which stars can take part in the day's trials.

In December 2017, The Sun Online revealed the gruelling medical exam I’m A Celeb competitors have to take, including weight and nutrition assessments to kidney, heart and bowel checks.

Anne Hegerty was ruled out of this year's first bushtucker trial but as of yet, it has not been confirmed what the medical reason is.

What qualifies as medical grounds?

Celebrities can qualify as being exempt on medical grounds for a number of reasons, including high blood pressure, dehydration, or allergies.

Last year, a lot of fans were questioning why Boris Johnson's dad Stanley was excused from so many trials on medical grounds, and even hosts Ant and Dec poked fun at the situation.

Jamie Vardy's wife Rebekah was banned from taking part in any "fish-based activity" during her stay down under due to her shellfish allergy.

In December 2015, Lady Colin Campbell sensationally quit the jungle, citing medical reasons, while ex-Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews left after just three days.
