Yesterday, The Sun revealed the 42-year-old presenter would not be returning to TV until next year, meaning he will miss his annual trip to Australia alongside co-host Declan Donnelly.
His decision to focus on his recovery following his drink drive arrest and rehab stint earlier this year also means Saturday Night Takeaway will not return until 2020.
Speaking about the news on today's Good Morning Britain, Iain, who appeared on I'm a Celebrity last year, said Ant had made the right decision.
He said: "I think good for him, he's decided his recovery comes first and that he needs to sort out whatever he needs to sort out.
"There are some things more important than television, his sobriety is more important."
Iain, 45, said his name was one of the many that had been put forward to co-host I'm a Celebrity alongside Dec, 42, but it was "nuts".
He added: "It's nonsense, we know Dec can do it on his own as he did the other shows on his own.
"He's fine, he'll be able to cope with it."
Iain then referred to his own past struggles with addiction, saying: "Listen I'm a raging junkie and alcoholic as well, I am, so I think his recovery is more important and good luck to him, and let him sort it out and come back whenever he's ready.
"It would appear, but I don't know as I don't know the bloke, that people have said 'there's no rush'.
"I think he's an inspiration for people that are struggling with addiction."
Yesterday, Ant gave an exclusive statement to The Sun explaining his decision.
He said: “My recovery is going very well and for that to continue having spoken to Dec and ITV, I have made the decision to take the rest of the year off.
“I’d like to thank both Dec and ITV for their continued support and I look forward to getting back to work in the new year.”
