Today, Michael Strahan is a fixture on television. Not only is he a co-host on Good Morning America but he is also an emcee on the game show The $100,000 Pyramid. Before his TV career, however, Strahan was mainly known for being one of the greatest football players of all time. The former New York Giants defensive end had a spectacular career in the National Football League (NFL) from 1993 to 2008. He won games, broke records, and received a recognition after recognition for his work on the football field.
Being one of the most recognized players in NFL history, his net worth would prove to be just as impressive. Let’s dive into Michael Strahan’s career in professional football and see how much money he managed to earn by the time he retired from the league.

Although he had an injury early on in his pro career, Strahan eventually overcame it to become part of the Giants’ starting roster in 1994. The 6-foot-5 defensive end went on to prove himself on the field by recording numerous sacks every season, but it wasn’t until 1997 when he truly became a breakout star. This was the first of Strahan’s many great seasons. In 1997, he recorded 14 sacks (tied third place in the overall league), voted to the Pro Bowl, and was a part of the All-Pro team.
Michael Strahan’s accomplishments did not stop there. In 2001, he registered 22.5 sacks, officially breaking New York Jets’ Mark Gastineau’s old record of 22.0. Thus, Strahan was now the title holder of most sacks recorded in NFL history. He even got named 2001 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Season after season, Michael Strahan would continue to record sacks in the double-digit. Additionally, he would also go on to be named to the Pro Browl team seven times.
In 2008, during his final season, the New York Giants earned their chance to play in Super Bowl XLII against the New England Patriots. Strahan, now 36 years old, was part of the starting lineup and helped his team won an amazing 17-14 victory.
He decided to retire from professional football after the Super Bowl, though his accomplishments would still be honored for years after that. In 2014, he earned a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Strahan was also recognized as part of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s.
How much money did he make in the NFL?
Throughout his football career, Michael Strahan’s net worth amounted to just under $60 million. His yearly salary would differ from year to year, but in the 2002-2003 season, he reportedly earned $20.6 million, his highest payment yet.
Today Strahan’s net worth has grown to $65 million and he earns $17 million a year.
His life after football
After he retired from the game, Michael Strahan immediately landed a spot as an analyst on Fox NFL Sunday. He took a while to adjust to being an on-air personality, though after he became used to talking in front of a camera, Strahan branched out.
In 2012, he became a co-host alongside Kelly Ripa on the daytime ABC show Live! With Kelly and Michael. After four years, however, he left Live! to join Good Morning America full time, co-hosting their third hour with Sara Haines.
