Hollyoaks continued its unsettling grooming storyline tonight as Buster Smith took another opportunity to abuse his power with Ollie Morgan by manipulating his dad Luke.
Over the past few months, Buster (Nathan Sussex) has been grooming schoolboy Ollie (Aedan Duckworth), unbeknownst to anyone else in the village.
This week, viewers saw Buster tell a delighted Ollie that he impressed a football scout and gets the chance to travel to Spain on a football trip, but things took another sinister turn in Thursday’s (August 30) E4 episode after Scott Drinkwell discovers Ollie has been secretly drinking vodka.
With Buster now aware of Ollie’s drinking, he uses the situation to convince Luke Morgan (Gary Lucy) that he’s the reason his son has turned to alcohol, and suggests that he’s unfit to chaperone Ollie on the trip abroad.
“I don’t want to overstep but I’m gonna have to say something – Ollie’s drinking is learned behaviour,” Buster told Luke.
“Sometimes these things can spiral out of control with big consequences. You’re also struggling with a drinking problem – what if you have a funny turn out there? How’s that going to affect Ollie?”
Unfortunately, Buster’s manipulation works, and Luke agrees to let Ollie go to Spain – with Buster as his chaperone.
Tonight’s episode also saw Ollie and Brody Hudson (Adam Woodward) officially meet for the first time and share a kick-about in The Dog’s car park.
Viewers already know that Brody also shares a dark history with Buster, as he sexually abused him when he was a child, and recent spoilers have hinted that Brody could be the one to uncover the truth about Buster’s abuse of Ollie after Luke finds inappropriate pictures that someone has taken of his teenage son Ollie.
Although it’s Scott that gets the blame for the photos initially, will Brody make the connection between Buster and Ollie?
Actor Adam Woodward recently teased that Brody’s role in the storyline will step up in a major way next month.
“The Buster storyline really starts to kick off for Brody in September,” he told Inside Soap. “For most of his life, Brody has believed it was just him that Buster did this to – but soon the realisation will dawn that maybe it isn’t just him.”
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4
