Hollyoaks confirms return for Finn O’Connor as rapist released from prison

Hollyoaks have revealed a return for rapist Finn O’Connor, played by actor Keith Rice, with the character set to make a full-time comeback later this year.

The character dramatically exited the soap in 2014 after he raped his teacher John Paul McQueen, and attempted to rape Nancy Osborne.

After his horrific crimes were exposed he was sent to prison, while briefly making a return in 2017 when he was confronted by John Paul’s then boyfriend James Nightingale after an attempt for early release.

While James and Nancy are still in the village, John Paul left for a new life with son Matthew, while he did make a cameo of sorts earlier this year via video link.

Finn’s initial soap return comes about following his stepmother Diane O’Connor’s devastating discovery that Finn’s sister Sinead has been raped.

Sinead opens up to her family about her harrowing rape ordeal at the hands of her own husband Laurie, and Diane is determined to help her daughter get justice.

Diane will go to visit Finn in upcoming scenes, as she reaches out to him believing he might be able to help her.

The character thinks that Finn can help her to try and understand the mind-set of a rapist, and that it might aid Sinead’s case.

Keith will reprise the role for the prison scenes in June, and then again in the months following the visit as he is released.

But will the villagers allow him to settle back in to the community, and does he have remorse for his horrific crimes?

Keith confirmed his return to the soap, revealing: “I’m so excited to be back, and to be working with the talented Hollyoaks cast and crew again.

“I’m really intrigued to see how Finn, following his time in prison, will integrate back into his family and also back into society.

“I’m looking forward to exploring it, and also still giving the storyline the respect and sensitivity it deserves.”

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode on at 7pm on E4.
