Holly Willoughby has been announced to be replacing Ant McPartlin for this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! series.
But what you may not know is that Declan Donnelly actually predicted this would happen less than one year ago, in a now slightly awkward joke.
At the start of the 2017 series of I’m a Celebrity, Dec welcomed viewers before incorrectly introducing his co-presenter.
“Hello, good morning, good evening,” he said. “Welcome to Australia. We are back, and we’re here for the next three weeks. Your hosts, me and the gorgeous Holly Willoughby.”
“What?” Ant replied, in faux-outrage. “Sorry, what?! What?!”
That summer, Ant had checked himself into rehab, leading to speculation on whether or not he would return to present.
“Nobody was sure if you’d make it or not!” Dec said, referencing this. “We didn’t know if you’d be here!”
“I was always going to be here,” Ant said, before they both shared a warm hug.
For the 2018 series, Holly has been drafted in to stand in for Ant after he confirmed he would be taking the rest of this year off to focus on his recovery.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have been asked to stand alongside Dec for the next jungle adventure,” Holly said in a statement earlier today (August 29). “I love Ant and want to send him my best wishes and support for a continued recovery.
“These are big shoes, not to fill, but just to keep warm for a little bit.”
Dec said: “I am hugely grateful to Holly for agreeing to accompany me to Australia this year. She was at the top of my list, and I’m thrilled she said yes.”
This Morning is expected to announce who will cover for Holly soon.
I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! returns to ITV later this year.
