Holly Willoughby has left fans stunned as she revealed she is related to EastEnders legend Tamzin Outhwaite.

Holly, 40, made the surprising revelation as she sat with actress Tamzin, 50, on the This Morning sofa on Monday 27 September.

Holly and her TV sidekick Phillip Schofield interviewed Tamzin, who played Mel Owen on the BBC One soap, to discuss her role in new TV drama Ridley Road, which airs next month.

As they discussed the actress' latest career adventure, the topic of The Masked Dancer, which Tamzin competed in, came up.

Tamzin appeared as Scarecrow on the ITV dance show and was unmasked when Holly, who's love of spirituality was recently revealed, appeared as a guest detective on the TV competition.

Speaking on Monday's This Morning, Holly revealed she was left blushing when she didn't realise Tamzin was the one behind the mask – especially because of their familial connection.

Holly said: "I loved you so much in that.

"I clearly didn't guess who you were which is slightly embarrassing bearing in mind we are practically related."

Holly laughed and added: "Sorry about that" to which the actress giggled and said: "That's all right."

This Morning host Holly and actress Tamzin are related through marriage, and Holly has even previously referred to Tamzin as her cousin.

Holly and Tamzin are actually cousins-in-law as Holly's producer husband Dan Baldwin's mother is Tamzin's mum's sister.

Tamzin is best known for her role on EastEnders. She starred as Mel Owen from 1998 but left in 2002, shortly after the death of her onscreen husband Steve Owen, played by Martin Kemp.

But, in 2006 she revealed she wouldn't rule out a return to the popular soap and, 11 years later, Mel came back to Albert Square in 2017.

She had some eventful storylines as she reappeared on the soap, including her reignited romance with her ex Ray Kelly, who her son Hunter later killed and Hunter later died himself.

Mel got caught up in a huge drama when she discovered Sharon Mitchell was pregnant with Keanu Taylor's baby, whom Sharon's stepdaughter Louise was also expecting a child with.

Mel went to expose Sharon and Keanu she rushed to meet Sharon's husband Phil at the airport. She got into a car accident on the way, which Sharon attempted to save her from but she ran back into the wreckage, which is now on fire, and is hit by a lorry.
