Happy Death Day was one of the biggest horror surprises of last year, a playful and hugely entertaining Groundhog Day slasher.
It followed college student Tree (Jessica Rothe) who gets brutally murdered on her birthday (of all days), only to wake up again and have to relive her death over and over until she can work out why it was happening.
Spoiler alert, it turned out to be her roommate Lori killing her, but we never really got an explanation as to why Tree was trapped in a loop, so maybe some explanation will come in the sequel which now has a confirmed title and release date.
After director Christopher Landon seemingly revealed the title as Happy Death Day 2U in August, Universal has confirmed that title for the sequel which will be released in US cinemas on February 14, 2019 if you fancy a horror-themed date for Valentine’s Day.
No UK release date has been confirmed yet, but we can hope that it’ll arrive around the same time as well.
Landon will again write and direct Happy Death Day 2U, with Rothe back as the lead and Jason Blum producing. The plot is being kept under wraps, but it’s said to follow Tree as she discovers “dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead”.
Bring it on.
Happy Death Day 2U is released in US cinemas on February 14, 2019.
