Former Grey’s Anatomy actress Sarah Drew has admitted that it’s “painful” to watch the ABC drama after being written out.
Drew, who starred as Dr April Kepner for nine seasons, was controversially written out at the end of last season.
She told reporters (via People): “I haven’t been watching. You know, it’s a little painful to kind of go and watch your family move on without you.”
She added: “I wish everybody the best and I know they’re having a wonderful time.”
Earlier this month, showrunner Krista Vernoff said the “doors are open” for April to return.
“Never say never,” Vernoff declared. “That’s what I said when people asked me if I was coming back to Grey’s when I left season 7. I said, ‘Never say never’, and look.
“I’m not promising anything for this season. But at Shondaland, those doors are open.”

Vernoff’s comments come as she explained why she decided to say farewell to April as well as Dr Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw).
“Look, I came back in season 14. I had been gone since season 7. When I arrived, we had 14 series regulars,” she said. “That’s an unmanageable number of series regulars to write for. Nothing has time to land. It wasn’t manageable.
“So I made some complicated and difficult decisions last season, but still I’ve got 10 series regulars who have been there for a long time and that allows me to bring in some guest stars to play with those series regulars.

“The guest stars are often key to keeping things fresh and alive, giving people new energy. New characters to bounce off of.”
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC in the US, and on Sky Witness and NOW TV in the UK.
