Great British Bake Off 2019: Steph to lose crown to David as winner’s evidence emerges?

Great British Bake Off returns tonight with the grand finale of this year’s competition and the three finalists; David, Steph and Alice will battle it out to be crowned the 2019 champion. But according to data collected by Bwin, there is a strong chance Steph won’t win. Who could claim victory instead?

Since the series began, Steph has won four Star Baker awards, proving she is popular with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

However, it seems David has a strong advantage; David’s Yorkshire heritage means baking is in his blood.

Four out of the previous nine winners were from the same region of the UK.

Steph’s predecessors from the North West have also provided five finalists, but only one winner.

Sadly, for Alice, the South East does not rise to the challenge, with only two previous bakers from this region making it to the final, with only one eventual winner.

To add to this, age is on David’s side, but does this mean he has a higher chance of winning?

Currently 36-years-old, finalists in their 30s have proven to be more than twice as effective at navigating finals successfully, therefore David has an advantage over the ladies.

A whopping 46 percent of bakers aged 30 or over who made it to the final have gone on to win the title, compared to only 23 percent in their 20s – both Alice and Steph are 28-years-old.

As for how popular the bakers are with the judges, it seems Prue is the judge to impress – but Paul could still decide the final with the technical challenge.

Apparently the technical challenge will decide the final – only one previous winner came third in the final technical challenge (Frances in series four), whoever finishes third tonight has the odds set against them according to Bwin.

With the final technical challenge likely to be set by Paul, it is good news for David who has been in the top two for every one of Paul’s challenges.

However, the data does prove why Steph should also be in the final.

This evening, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig return to host the final of the culinary competition.

Family and friends, as well as the former bakers will gather on the law outside the prestigious white tent to see either David, Steph or Alice be crowned the winner.

Before that happens, they will have take part in one last Signature, Technical and Showstopper.

But what do they have to create?

For the first round, they must make the “ultimate chocolate cake”.

While in the Technical, they have to master the most delicate of dishes; the soufflé.

But following last year’s arguably bizarre Showstopper challenge – making a fire to bake pitta breads and roast peppers on – this year’s final challenge is slightly more usual for the show.

Prue and Paul want to see an edible illusion and “deviously deceptive feast” of a picnic basket which has been created by cake, sweet bread and biscuits.

Great British Bake Off concludes tonight with the grand final at 8pm on Channel 4.
