Great British Bake Off retuned to Channel 4 this evening as the contestants entered the fourth week of the competition. Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith had chosen to test the bakers in a show first; Dairy Week. But during the technical, those vying for the Bake Off cake stand trophy failed to impress.
The remaining ten home bakers were tasked with making 12 Maids of Honours; a tart which originates from the Tudor times.
Before lifting up the Gingham cloth, Prue offered some very simple words of advice for the contestants.
She told them to pay attention to every single step stated in the method.
Unfortunately this didn’t help any of them as they all failed to make quality tarts.

With the risk of soggy bottoms looming, this was frankly the least of their worries when Paul and Prue returned to the tent for judging.
As per usual, the contestants placed their tarts behind their pictures and the judges inspected each one.
But ask Paul and Prue looked at what was in front of them they were not happy.
Prue was the first to comment and she said: “Right. By large, or almost by large, they are all to shallow.”
Before even finishing her sentence, Paul had already turned around and walked out of the infamous tent.
Following a few seconds of his absence, he finally came back and frankly stated: “They’re awful. They’re all really bad.
He then turned his attention to the first bakes in front of him: “At least they’re neat! There is a form of something in the middle, but they’re too shallow.”
Moving down the line, between Prue and Paul, they’re comments were as follows: “No Tudor rose…too dry.. not enough filling.”

Finally the bakes were ranked from worst to best and no one was surprise by last place.
Sitting bottom was Priya who spent far too long thickening her curd that she failed to complete the challenge.
Whereas Steph was given the number one spot, but Prue made sure she was aware her Maids of Honours were the best of a bad bunch.
“Certainly best out of this lot. I wish I could say they were the best Maids of Honours I’ve ever eaten,” she said.
Those watching at home took to Twitter to comment and one said: “This maid’s of honour technical is a car crash! #GBBO.”
“Can anyone blame the bakers for not making perfect maids of honour? LITERALLY WHAT ARE THEY #GBBO,” another argued.
A third tweeted: “Paul Hollywood was so unfair in that challenge. Who even knows what a maid of honour is? #GBBO.”
Great British Bake Off airs every Tuesday evening at 8pm on Channel 4.
