Gavin and Stacey writers did explain what happened on the fishing trip – but then deleted the scene

Gavin and Stacey writers Ruth Jones and James Corden were set to reveal what happened between Uncle Bryn and Jason on that faithful fishing trip – but deleted the scene.

The BBC show’s fans were eager to discover what exactly happened on the fishing trip, and James, 41, even d ropped a hint that viewers will find out before the latest episode aired.

And, during a scene for the record-breaking show, it seemed as if we were finally about to find out,as Bryn and Jason began explaining, much to their family's reluctance until Gavin and Stacey’s children stormed in and the topic was quickly dropped and what exactly happened continues to remain a mystery.

Since the Christmas episode aired, which drew in 11.6million viewers, it’s now been revealed the writers, who star as Nessa and Smithy in the comedy series, had planned to explain what happened on that fateful trip, but decided to scrap the scene.

And, Lisa Edwards, who is the owner of Uncle Bryn’s Barry home, still has a script of the episode that was supposed to reveal all.

Speaking to Wales Online, she said: “We have a script for an episode which was never aired.

“It was supposed to be Uncle Bryn and his nephew watching this VHS.

“They both watch it together to see what happened on the fishing trip. But they decided to not show the episode.”

Before the episode aired, writer James teased fans that they would finally find out what exactly happened between Uncle Bryn and Jason.

Speaking on Capital FM he said: “Do you actually want to know? Well, there’s a chance it gets discussed on the show.”

Host Rob Howard then quizzed James and Ruth for more details before 53 year old Ruth interrupted with: “Oh, love, listen to what the man’s saying. He said there’s a chance it might get discussed, alright? Now back off!”

The infamous fishing trip isn’t the only headline grabber for the Christmas episode of the show. As the huge cliffhanger, which saw Nessa propose to Smithy, hinted at another episode some time in the future.

And writer Ruth has revealed they could be bringing back the show for one more.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: “It is so complicated for me and James to get together to write.

“I do say never say never, as while we did make it work that was after three years of trying to find time when we could sit down and write it.”

She added: “Obviously the way it ends, there is room for more.

“It’s a shame we didn’t have more time when we were writing so we could have written more, then have it all ready to go.
