JON Snow took it upon himself to murder the bloodthirsty Daenerys Targaryen in the Game of Thrones finale which aired earlier this year.
After burning King’s Landing to the ground from atop her dragon, Daenerys’ had clearly crossed the line in the eyes of Jon, who drove a dagger through her heart during a tender embrace.
Despite knowing there would be grave repercussions for his actions, it seemed Jon’s duty to the greater good came first, as he feared the tyrannical femme fatale would tear Westeros apart.
However, in a new interview as part of the HBO drama’s Blu-ray and DVD release, Kit Harington admitted that Jon’s motives were closer to home.
“He doesn’t know he’s going to betray her until right at the end,” he said of the agonising decision.
“In Jon’s head, it’s a number of [reasons: Dany] doesn’t factor in anyone else’s decisions,” he went on.
“And it also means [Dany] is going to kill my sisters, so it becomes [my] family versus her.”
The notion that Daenerys would’ve killed Sansa and Arya Stark is well founded.
The dragon queen clashed with Sansa upon meeting her at Winterfell, clearly threatened by the North’s loyalty to the Starks.
What’s more, Arya and Sasna knowing about Jon’s rightful claim to the throne, due to his Targaryen blood, would’ve made them a threat to Daenerys’ rule.
In the end, Sansa ended up ruling an independent North, while Arya sailed off to explore uncharted territories west of Westeros.
It was youngest brother Bran who took the throne – a move that Tyrion Lannister was on board with, according to Peter Dinklage.
