Friends fans spot Monica Geller cat allergy plot hole in confusing job interview scene – The Sun

FRIENDS may have wrapped 15 years ago, but fans continue to put the sitcom under the microscope.

The newest gaffe to pop up surrounds Courteney Cox’s character Monica Geller.

In the episode titled The One With The List in season 2, Monica heads for a job interview.

During the grilling she reveals to her prospective boss that she is allergic to cats.

This in and of itself wouldn’t be so strange if not for the fact that in the previous episode, The One Where Ross Finds Out, it’s revealed that Monica and her brother Ross (David Schwimmer) grew up with a cat.

The name? Fluffy Meowington.

Fans took to Reddit in confusion, baffled by the fact someone with a cat allergy would have to endure one as a childhood pet.

User ChanglerBong311 wrote: “In season 2 episode 8 Monica says she’s allergic to cat hair when she’s offered a ‘Fishstashio’ at the end.

“But we know that she had a cat named Fluffy Meowington from the episode right before this one when Ross was going to get a cat with Julie.”

The super fan asked fellow Friends enthusiasts for explanations and a couple came forward with the goods.

One theorised: “Maybe with Fluffy she realised she is allergic to it?”

Another drew from personal experience, suggesting: “You can develop an allergy later in life. I had cats growing up, no allergy.

“Developed one as a grown-up and later it went away on its own.”

However a third wasn’t having it, sniping: “In all seriousness there are a lot of errors in the writing of this show.”

The plot hole comes after Friends’ final episode was named the best TV show finale of the past 20 years.

Viewers picked the last instalment of the US sitcom, entitled The Last One, from a list compiled by entertainment website Digital Spy.

The final episode, which aired in 2004, and drew in an audience of 8.6million, beat Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Breaking Bad to the top spot.

Friends is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
