Eddie Redmayne has reunited with his Theory of Everything co-star Felicity Jones – taking them both to new heights.
The pair are starring together in Amazon Studios’ The Aeronauts, about two daredevils in the 1860s who set out to fly a hot air balloon higher than anyone else before them.
The studio has just released the first image from the upcoming film, showing Redmayne and Jones 2,000 feet in the air.
And if you think it all looks like green screen and camera trickery, you’re wrong – producer Todd Lieberman has revealed that both actors did in fact go up into the sky.
“A top priority for us on The Aeronauts is authenticity. With that in mind, we intend to do as much balloon filming in the sky as the weather will allow,” Lieberman said in a press statement.
“This image was taken after we launched Felicity and Eddie 2,000 feet in the air, performing their scripted scene, while a helicopter captured it all.
“We’re fortunate that Felicity and Eddie have the nerve to do these stunts themselves as it authenticates our entire approach.”
Jones stars as wealthy young widow Amelia Wren who recruits ambitious scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) to make hot air balloon history, despite the dangers they’ll face along the way.
Directing is Peaky Blinders‘ Tom Harper, while Tom Courtenay, Anne Reid and Rebecca Front also star.
There’s no release date announced for The Aeronauts yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
