Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is going to be the “darkest” Harry Potter film yet.
Speaking at a fan event in New York, Katherine Waterston (Porpentina ‘Tina’ Goldstein) told the Toronto Sun: “I think it’s definitely the darkest of the entire series, including all the Harry Potter films.”
Echoing her sentiments was Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), who confirmed “it’s very dark”.
Waterson continued: “It’s pretty much as intense as it can get. However, there are new beasts, there are baby beasts, there’s still these wonderful love stories that develop in surprising and challenging ways.
“So while it is dark, it’s exciting. Fans of Harry Potter will be able to make some amazing connections to the previous films. So it’s a wonderful balance of intensity and mystery and a lot of heart. JK [Rowling] just writes completely believable characters and she never short-changes a single actor.
“Every person is rich and complex and we get to see these complicated, smart, and tricky characters struggle as they develop into the people they are meant to be.”
Describing the sequel, Dan Folger (Jacob Kowalski) added that it “has a lot of the same elements that you see in Empire Strikes Back”.
“You see your favourite good guys being put through the paces and taken down a notch, while the bad guys balance the playing field. It leaves you pulling your hair out for the next movie.”
The Crimes of Grindelwald will be released in UK and US cinemas on November 16, 2018.
