Emmerdale's Belle Dingle actress warns of 'mental health spiral with massive impact' as she seeks revenge on Andrea

EMMERDALE’S Belle Dingle actress, Eden Taylor-Draper, has warned of “mental health spiral with massive impact” as the character seeks revenge on back-stabbing Andrea.

The soap star opened up about fallout following her affair with Jamie Tate and his hit and run, which recently saw him manage to secure an alibi from his estranged wife.

Overwhelmed by everything that’s been happening lately, Emmerdale's Belle starts to hear voices – one of which belongs to her late mother Lisa Dingle.

They try to convince her that all the terrible things happening in her life at the moment are because of Jamie's ex, Andrea, and she needs to be punished.

Speaking about the difficult storyline, Eden revealed: “It's having a massive impact.

"There's the stress of the situation and Belle hasn't really had anyone there for her, especially when she was pretending to love Jamie – she felt very alone. Even though the Dingles have now forgiven her for what she did, she still feels cast out.

"Belle's mental health isn't great and it's taken a turn. Nobody is really there to see it happening or prevent it. Belle starts to spiral."

The actress went on: “At first it's her mum – she thinks she can hear Lisa. Belle finds that massively comforting. I don't think she really realises that she's ill. Because it's her mum, she just thinks it's great.

“Then her mum says she has to get revenge and that it's all about getting her own back. Belle starts to do things that aren't right and that aren't Belle. She doesn't understand why her mum wants her to do those things.

“Because it's her mum, she trusts it and goes with it. That's when it becomes serious.”

If Belle ends up getting in serious trouble over Moira’s hit and run and going to prison, Eden fears whether the troubled young woman would survive.

"She's depressed and in a rut," Eden explains, “obviously Belle has been in prison before and that's why the psychosis developed. I can't imagine she'd cope well at all. She is more fragile."

Emmerdale airs these scenes in the week commencing Monday, October 12 on ITV.
