Emmerdale stars reveal details about Robron wedding and tease future for couple

The day that Robron fans have been waiting for has finally arrived – the much-anticipated wedding!

While the beloved Emmerdale couple may have tied the knot in the past, this will be the first time they do it officially and, after a year of some serious lows, many fans will be relieved that Robert and Aaron will finally enjoy some happiness.

But what will the big day entail? Is there any drama? And what does the future hold for Robert and Aaron as a married couple?

Mirror TV spoke to actors Ryan Hawley and Danny Miller about what viewers could expect from the wedding.

Heartbreakingly, Chas gives birth to baby Grace ahead of the wedding – after desperately hoping that she would still be pregnant so that her daughter would be able to attend her brother’s big day.

Despite the tragic circumstances, Chas is keen for the wedding to go ahead and tells Aaron that they need this.

In the run up to the wedding, actor Danny reveals Aaron is suffering from "mixed emotions".

"From Aaron’s part it’s bad timing, and I think he wants to postpone it," Danny explains. "It’s only that Robert kind of has a pep talk with him and says everything he needs, it’s a time for everyone to get the family together again, and that’s exactly the reason he goes for it."

Ryan adds: "Chastity Dingle is quite forthright about not postponing the wedding, and having their day, their wedding day, and everyone getting to be happy and celebrate the matrimony between Robert and Aaron."

He also reveals that, as a result of what had happened, the wedding is altered slightly to include speeches alluding to what has happened.

Most of the drama on the big day will come from Victoria after she discovers that Aaron knew the truth about Adam. This week she finds out that Moira killed Emma – but that Adam took the blame to cover for his mum.

Initially, Victoria says that she won’t be attending the wedding.

"She’s very angry with both Aaron and Robert for not letting her in on that, and her having all that pain of believing that he’s guilty, and gone on the run," Ryan says. "He tries to talk her round, but obviously he understands that she’s been kept in the dark and that she feels betrayed, and hurt."

In the end, Victoria decides to put aside her own pain and anger and attends the wedding.

Before the wedding, Aaron hands Robert his old watch which has the dates of their two weddings engraved on it. Robert is overwhelmed and the pair set off to get married.

Divulging details on the ceremony itself, Ryan reveals: "They write their own vows and they wear suits.

"Obviously it’s a wedding and Chas goes to a lot of effort to make it a really special occasion for Aaron and there’s a particular scene where Robert and Aaron come back from getting their suits and meet Chas who is with Faith, and they’ve been spending the whole day getting the decorations ready. They’re a lot classier than last time."

Asked whether anything is set to go wrong, Ryan reveals: "It’s one of the very few occasions in the show where people get to be happy without any interruptions. Obviously there’s the background of what’s gone on with Grace, but it seems to be a very positive episode in that the characters are trying to be positive and celebrate the day and not let that affect them.

"Obviously it does and people make their feelings felt, but it’s a nice half hour of a wedding really."

So what makes the couple more likely to last this time around

"There’s so much more to Robert, the character he came in as – he’s not that character any more and that’s a lot to do with the writers writing so well for Robert and Aaron," Danny says. "They just want to be loyal and honest to each other finally, and they just happen to be best mates really who are in a relationship and I think that’s what we always try to do is to play it that way as opposed to anything more."

Ryan adds: "I think they’ve learnt from things they’ve done in the past, places where the relationship has gone wrong, so I think they’re much stronger this time around and they have a really strong foundation to build upon from year onwards into the future."

Speaking about what viewers can expect after the wedding, Danny reveals: "There’s a lot to do with the Chas and Paddy storyline, so that will kind of reappear again, and dealing with that situation with Grace and the family surrounding them really."

Asked whether their surnames would change after the wedding, Danny says: "The writers were very keen for them to keep their own identity, so it will just be Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden."

So what are their hopes for the future now that they are married?

"That the stories stay interesting, and that there’s still drama for our characters to encounter," Ryan says. "And interesting situations for them to find themselves in, and obstacles for them to overcome."
