EastEnders kicked off Ruby Allen’s rape story tonight (October 9) as she told Stacey Fowler about her harrowing ordeal after the party.
Tuesday’s episode focused solely on Ruby’s highly-publicised plot, which is exploring the topical issue of sexual consent.
Although Stacey and Martin were both keen to get the lowdown on Ruby’s antics from the night before, it became increasingly clear that she was actually deeply traumatised by something.
As Stacey implored her friend to open up, Ruby eventually revealed that she left the club with a group of Martin’s pals and slept with Ross back at his house.
Ruby explained to Stacey that by the time she got back to Ross’s, she didn’t actually want to have sex with him anymore – but felt she owed it to him anyway.
But while a concerned Stacey insisted that Ruby didn’t “owe” Ross anything, it became increasingly clear that this was only half the story.
Devastated, Ruby then went on to reveal that she passed out afterwards and later woke up to find Matt taking advantage of her.
As Ruby doubted her ordeal, a supportive Stacey insisted that this was rape – firmly pointing out that Ruby hadn’t given her consent.
However, while Stacey was listening to Ruby’s harrowing version of events, Martin was hearing an entirely different story from Ross, Matt and Glenn.
While Ross admitted to sleeping with a drunk Ruby, Matt also claimed that he’d had consensual sex with her as well.
Martin did question his friends’ actions – and the disrespectful way they were addressing her – but was assured that Ruby was willing and happy with everything.
Given that Martin and Stacey have both heard two very different accounts of the night, fans can expect big drama as they clash over what to do in the aftermath.
With Stacey determined that Ruby should report the rape to the police, Martin remains adamant that his friends are telling the truth.
Spoilers for next week have revealed that Ruby does ultimately decide to take Stacey’s advice and report the crime, but will Matt be charged?
EastEnders continues on Thursday, October 11 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
