EastEnders viewers will watch Ruby Allen’s harrowing rape storyline from two separate points of view.
They won’t actually get to see the incident, relying only on the drastically different perspectives of horrified Ruby and her alleged rapist.
Ruby will be left traumatised after heading home with Martin Fowler’s friends after his school reunion at E20.
The next morning, concerned Stacey tells her best friend that she has been raped after hearing her account of the night, but Martin is told something completely different.
The couple’s loyalties will be split when they hear two contrasting stories as the soap looks at the issue of consent.
Speaking about the episode, actress Louisa Lytton told Digital Spy : "I’ve not seen it but it’s written from Ruby’s point of view and the boys’ point of view. They meet up with Martin and Ruby goes to Stacey’s house – it’s almost like a two-hander of the two, telling the story from different sides.
"It’s a nice way of doing it because it shows how differently we think of these situations and sexual experiences and what was right and what was wrong, what should’ve stopped and what shouldn’t happen.
"The boys tell it that Ruby was just up for it and has had sex with two guys that night, and she tells the story of having had sex with one guy…"
Ruby’s ordeal begins when she heads home with Martin’s old school pals Ross and Matt.
Realising something is wrong the next day, Ruby reveals that she consented to sleeping with Ross but found Matt on top of her later on.
Stacey tells Ruby, who blames herself for being drunk, that she was raped and urges her to get help.
However, Martin meets up with the boys to discuss the night before and hears a different story.
This causes a rift between Martin and Stacey as their loyalties to their friends and each other are tested.
Will Ruby go to the police? And will this have a massive effect on Martin and Stacey’s marriage?
