Did EastEnders' Charlie Slater always know about Kat's abuse?

Tonight’s episode of EastEnders (November 26) saw Kat Moon visit her dad Charlie’s old cabbie tea hut, hoping for inspiration as she struggles to learn the Knowledge.

She met ex-cabbie Tony, who knew Charlie, and they decided to visit one of Charlie’s favourite pubs.

While there, she was introduced to Maurice, another of Charlie’s old friends who dropped a shocking bombshell. He implied to Kat that her dad may have always known that she was abused by her uncle Harry.

Stunned by the news, an emotional Kat ended up crashing her moped and knocking over an elderly man in the process. She was left unconscious on the floor as the episode came to an end.

But did Charlie really always know about Harry abusing Kat? Fans may remember the scenes from several years ago that saw Kat tell Zoe that she is her mother, and that Zoe is the result of uncle Harry’s rape.

When Charlie discovered the truth, he seemed to be just as shocked and disgusted as everyone else, beating up Harry and disowning him as a brother.

So does it really make sense for him to have known about the abuse all along, or has there just been a massive misunderstanding between Maurice and Kat?
