Denise Welch sobs at The 1975's Brit Awards win as she remembers son Matt Healy playing 'cheap drums and guitars in the garage'

The Loose Women star, 60, took to social media to reveal that she was 'speechless' after their win and confessed that she remembered the days that her son Matt Healy and his bandmates would perform in her garage.

She wrote: "Speechless! Just crying thinking of them playing with their cheap drums and guitars in the garage!!! And obs its all down to me!!"

It's hardly surprising that the proud mum was overcome with emotion, as The 1975 took home the awards for Best British Group and Best British Album at this year's Brit Awards ceremony.

Earlier in the evening, the Loose Women star revealed that she was left 'visibly shaken' after the news broke of the band's success.

She wrote: "Just saw before I went on stage. I was visibly shaking I think!! So proud and how handsome do they look! #THEBRITS."

The band's success comes just weeks after Matt, who is Denise's son from her former marriage to Benidorm actor Tim Healy, revealed that he had found it challenging to stay sober while recording The 1975's latest music.

The 29-year-old said on Swedish chat show Skavlan: "I have just made a record without doing it [drugs] all of the time. So that was an experience and that was a challenge.

"I have now started touring without doing it all of the time. That’s a challenge.

"But you have just got to take it day by day because you will just freak yourself out."

In October last year, Denise teared up as she discussed her son’s drug addiction on Loose Women.

She said: "Although success for The 1975 has been wonderful, its been hard for me because I felt I've lost my son.

"I went to Los Angeles to visit him and he told me last year he was going to take himself to rehab and he needed help with addiction."
