When Danny Dyer eventually becomes Prime Minister, we’ll probably look back on this moment as the first step on his journey to 10 Downing Street.
Probably…
Anyway, Danny’s Brexit rant on Good Evening Britain has been named TV moment of the year at the Edinburgh TV Festival Awards.
The EastEnders star, you might remember, blasted former PM David Cameron on the late-night Good Morning Britain spin-off show back in June.
Appearing alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Dyer first defended his daughter Dani and Love Island from presenter Piers Morgan’s insults, before launching into an attack on the Government’s Brexit policy.
“This whole Brexit thing… who knows about Brexit? No-one’s got a f**king clue what Brexit is,” Danny insisted.
“You watch Question Time. No-one knows what it is! It’s like this mad riddle that no-one knows what it is.
“So, what’s happened to that twat David Cameron who brought it on? He can scuttle off, but he brought all of this on. Where is he? Is he in Europe with his trotters up?! Where is the geezer? He should be held account for it! Where?! Twat!”
Piers agreed that “it’s a valid point,” but failed to back-up Danny’s comments about David Cameron.
Now, Dyer has won an award for the moment, to go with the outpouring of public support he received at the time.
Elsewhere at the awards, Derry Girls won best comedy series, Gogglebox was awarded best entertainment series and The Handmaid’s Tale snagged best international drama.
Meanwhile, Channel 5 was named channel of the year and Michael Palin was presented with a special lifetime achievement award.
