Corrie star Alexandra Mardell reveals how Emma would cope in prison

Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) will shortly be leaving Coronation Street, but will she be sailing into the sunset all loved up with Jon, or will she be doing time in prison for killing Jon’s grandfather Ted?

It could well turn out to be the latter, as Faye blurts out to Jon that she and Emma were responsible for Ted’s death. Unsurprisingly he doesn’t react well to the revelation that the woman he was hoping to spend his future with in Australia helped to cover up the circumstances around Ted’s death and it would be more than understandable if he got straight on to the phone to call the police.

Alexandra Mardell is certain that Emma wouldn’t do at all well in prison, as she explained to Metro.co.uk: ‘Oh gosh, it would not be good, I feel like she would be targeted straight away, poor Emma. But what would be interesting is if she went to prison and came back in the future, how she would’ve changed, how prison life has changed her.’

Fans have compared Emma’s character to another Corrie fan favourite, Raquel Wolstenhulme/Watts, who was played by Sarah Lancashire in the 1990s. Alexandra says that’s a ‘Huge compliment. I think it’s just how genuine and innocent that she is. There’s not a bad bone in her body and it’s very similar with Raquel, they’re a bit silly. Just pure innocence and loveliness.’

However things turn out for her character, Alexandra is pleased that she isn’t being killed off. ‘I’m so pleased, I’m really pleased. Even saying goodbye now was hard enough, but that little bit of hope that one day there’s a possibility I could go back, that keeps you going – it’s not goodbye forever, you never know. I’m really glad that she wasn’t killed off. Emma’s just having a really good holiday!’
