The 34-year-old’s actress, who plays Rana in the ITV soap, admitted it was very emotional reading the script in which the couple both secretly plan to pop the question.
She told the Daily Star TV Life: “It was really emotional. When I first read the script it really moved me and I texted Faye to say that I’ve just cried reading it!
“It was because I knew how much heart was going to go into filming this scene. So when we did come to film it we were both feeling teary.”
The star added: “This is the peak in their relationship and such a pleasant surprise for both of them and it just makes both of them feel confident and complete, knowing that they are on the same page as each other.”
In scenes set to air next week Rana arrives back early from the cruise she’s been on with her mum.
Jenny Connor – knowing that Kate plans to pop the question to her girlfriend – calls Kate to give her the heads up.
Bistro worker Kate is disappointed that her plan to meet Rana at the port and surprise her with a proposal won’t work out.
As she thinks of another romantic way to ask Rana to marry her, Rana visits Kate’s dad Johnny and secretly asks for Kate’s hand in marriage.
Later, the couple are reunited and are stunned as they both produce ring boxes and realise they both had the same idea and were planning surprise proposals.
They’re both absolutely thrilled and agree to marry.
An ecstatic Johnny and Jenny throw the girls an engagement party in the Rovers and Kate has yet another surprise for Rana.
Although she’s not quite so keen on this one when Kate announces that one of the reason she asked Rana to marry her is that she’ll make a terrific mum.
Rana’s brother Imran senses that this isn’t what his sister wants and urges her to tell Kate before it’s too late.
Will Kate’s desire for a baby change things between the newly engaged couple?
Faye recently told TV Times magazine that she was excited about the upcoming wedding for her character.
She said: “I would love a big gay Corrie wedding! I tell the writers that on the set. We're making history."
