Ever since he began his relationship with Yasmeen (played by Shelley King), Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) has taken control of pretty much every aspect of her life. He has insisted on looking after her finances, becoming a partner of Speed Daal and is now trying to convince Yasmeen she has a drinking problem.
Unfortunately for Coronation Street’s Geoff, it looks as though his plan to keep Yasmeen under his control could be about to fall apart.
Trying to isolate Yasmeen from her friend Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill), he told his wife she had a drinking problem and it made him feel unsafe in how own home.
Yasmeen was horrified by what Geoff told her and promised to try to get her drinking under control.
Instead of going to the pub with Cathy or to work at Speed Daal where customers would be drinking, she stayed at home cleaning.

To convince Yasmeen further that she has a drinking problem, he suggests she attended an alcohol support meeting with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).
Yasmeen agrees but when she returns home, she tells Geoff the meeting helped her to realise she doesn’t have a problem at all.
Furious his wife has clocked on to his lie, he cracks open a bottle of wine and forces her to drink it.
Having not touched a drop of alcohol for some time, the wine hits Yasmeen and she’s left rather tipsy.
Peter calls round at the house later to find out how Yasmeen is coping after her first meeting.
While Yasmeen knows she doesn’t have a problem, Geoff’s manipulative behaviour suggests otherwise.
Geoff tells Peter he is worried for Yasmeen as the session has done his wife more harm than good as she returned home to start drinking again.
Peter is left stunned and worried for his neighbour but will Yasmeen work out how controlling her husband has been.

Yasmeen is known for being a caring and calm resident in Weatherfield but it looks as though she could crack soon.
Geoff has taken everything Yasmeen cares about away from her – he’s isolated her from granddaughter Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), separated her from friend Cathy, and stopped her from working at Speed Daal.
As she builds up evidence against her husband, could a confrontation over his controlling behaviour lead to his death?
Fans have already seen Geoff harmed by accident – could Yasmeen kill Geoff and make it look like an accident to stop his abuse?

Unfortunately it seems it may be some time before Geoff gets his comeuppance as soap boss Iain MacLeod share his behaviour will only get worse.
“We will be exploring all these aspects of this complex and important social issue in coming episodes, as Geoff’s strangle-hold on Yasmeen tightens,” he told Digital Spy.
“Controlling behaviour is a spectrum and I really hope that, at the less insidious end, the storyline will have a positive effect on viewers’ attitudes to their loved-ones.
“And at the more serious end, where Geoff is headed, I hope it will give people at home who are in abusive relationships the courage and insight to get out before it’s too late.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
