Coronation Street‘s Daniel Osbourne springs a surprise wedding on Sinead Tinker next week, unaware that she could be seriously ill.
Daniel lovingly decorates the urban garden in preparation for a pagan wedding, wanting to tie the knot with Sinead (Katie McGlynn) as quickly as possible.
As Daniel makes the final preparations for his big day, he’s pleased when his father Ken agrees to go to his ceremony rather than Tracy and Steve’s, which is taking place on the same day.
Completely oblivious to the romantic plans being made behind her back, Sinead heads off for a biopsy and MRI scan following the worrying news that she could have cervical cancer.
A lump is found on Sinead’s cervix during a scan in this Wednesday’s double bill (October 3), but she decides not to tell Daniel until she knows the full story.
After a day of tests, Sinead steps off the tram and is stunned to see the beautifully decorated garden.
When Daniel drops to one knee and asks Sinead to marry him, she agrees to go ahead with the ceremony and the couple get wed. But will Sinead also confide in Daniel about her health?
Discussing the surprise wedding, Rob Mallard – who plays Daniel – explained: “It’s been such a rocky way for them to get together in the first place, so Daniel sees this as doing it while he can because you don’t know what else might happen.
“Sinead’s not very conventional, so it seems to make more sense to do it as a surprise rather than do it in a traditional, conventional sense.
“It’s more like a ceremony than an official wedding. I assume that off screen they will go to a registry office and get it done that way because Kirk is the one who marries them and he hasn’t been ordained.”
Asked how Daniel would feel if he knew about Sinead keeping her health scare so secret, Rob replied: “Betrayed. She kept a secret last time and they promised this time they wouldn’t have any secrets from each other. Daniel is completely oblivious to it. He thinks her symptoms are just normal pregnancy stuff.
“I think he’ll start to regress massively once he knows the truth. Sinead makes the world seem softer, so that Daniel can come out and enjoy life rather than think everything’s a threat. Daniel has a tendency to close ranks and is used to being by himself.”
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 10 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
