Coronation Street fans shocked by Robert’s ‘posh voice’ after discovering actor Tristan Gemmill is not actually Northern

Tristan Gemmill, who stars on the soap as Michelle’s husband, appeared on Big Star’s Little Stars alongside his son Wilfred – and revealed his real, rather Southern voice.

He is in fact from Tunbridge Wells and spent ten years living in Australia as a teen, so has to put on a Mancunian accent for the ITV show.

Those watching at home were rather surprised to hear him speak and couldn’t get over his posh accent.

One person wrote: “Robert off #corrie sounds quite posh #BigStarsLittleStar.”

Another commented: “Ohh! Robert off #Corrie sounds so different using his real voice on #BigStarslittleStar.”

While someone else added: “I'm disconcerted by Robert from corrie's southern accent #BigStarsLittleStar.”

The actor ended up winning with his son as they went up against Abbey Clancy and Sarah Beeney and their offspring.

Abbey was left red-faced during the show when her daughter Sophia revealed she thought the neighbour was “hot in Lycra”.

Meanwhile, last month Corrie star Tristan revealed that he decided to embrace his natural hair colour last  year after deciding it was a lot easier than having to worry about what colour his hair looked like in scenes, which are filmed out of sync.

He said: "There are a number or reasons. I’d toyed with stopping with the tinting for quite a long time, but the problem was continuity on 'Coronation Street'.

"Because we film in blocks that are out of sequence, I couldn’t be grey in one scene but dyed-black in the next! The chance came when Robert was sent to prison last year and I had about six weeks off.

"I figured it was now or never – although I consulted the producers first, of course. They were fine about it fortunately."
